About

Peter's story

PETER GRANT worked in the construction industry as a carpenter for a number of years. Then in his spare time, he turned his passion for working with green wood making bowls with a spoon carver and on the pole lathe, attending craft fairs to sell his wares.

He developed a particular interest in furniture and chairs, using techniques from courses he attended, researching and developing his own methods using traditional and modern tools to craft the chair.

His designs are influenced by old chairs, but built to suit the modern world, selecting materials to showcase the natural beauty of the wood.

"The chair is essentially a functional object; it has to be comfortable, be pleasing to the eye and last for years. It can be passed down to the next generation, just like Grandad's Chair!"
